Ballerina Bun...

Today I popped into my local Primark, I was only exchanging something I bought last week but I decided to wonder around the jewellery department and ended up picking this!

I've seen these hair doughnuts a lot recently in Primark and never took a second look at them (I don't know if that is the proper name but I'm going to call it that). I thought for £1 I may as well try it, even if it's just to play around with!

The first hairstyle I tried with it was the typical ballerina bun which the likes of J-lo and Kate Bosworth have been seen with...

   Pictures Found on Google

To achieve this I headed over to Youtube and followed this tutorial (minus the hair net). I liked the tutorial because it was the first I'd seen with suggested to use a clear plastic hair band to tie the hair around the doughnut which really makes the bun the neatest it will be!

Apologies for ROOTS!!

I decided this look is far too 'neat' for me so I took the bun out, loosened my pony tail and randomly wrapped pieces of hair around the doughnut to create a messy bun...

I think the doughnut is great for people who have shorter, slightly thinner hair because when I used to do a bun in my hair it would take a lot of back-combing to create any volume and the bun would still not be as big as this! These range between £4-5 in Boots so for £1 I think this is such a bargain!

Have you tried a hair doughnut before?

  7. I had one of these when I was about 11 so it's strange to see them again as I thought they'd disappeared! I used to love it though and get my cousin to do my hair with it for parties haha. My hair is far too short now sadly :( x

  12. Very cute! Oh memories. In dance some people used a long sock instead, with the toe part cut off, and rolled it into the shape.
